The Miracle Of Sadhana
The Miracle of Sadhana
Sat Want Singh Khalsa, Herndon VA, U.S.A.

The Herndon, VA community has initiated some creative and exciting programs to support people in their sadhana. Two of these initiatives are the Live at Five Sadhana and the Sixty Sikh Sadhana. The Live at Five Sadhana is enthusiastic kirtan played live for the meditations and Gurdwara every Saturday. The Sixty Sikh Sadhana is modeled after the Million Man March. It is a call to sadhana, with a goal of at least sixty Sikhs all joyously participating in Sadhana.

Our purpose in the Miracle of Sadhana program has been to build up the strength of the group sadhana. A strong group sadhana is a help to everyone; it uplifts everyone, whether they are able to attend or not.

My feeling about sadhana is that no one understands the pain of another person’s mind, and no one can gauge the depth of another person’s struggle to do sadhana, that internal fight to rise up, and live in the purity and strength of Khalsa consciousness. We are here not to hassle people to do (group) sadhana, nor to make people feel good or bad about their sadhana attendance. Our thinking is that by creating a beautiful vibration we might stimulate that longing within everyone to be with the Sadh Sangat and Guru in the amrit vela. We will work together, inspire each other to do sadhana, support everyone in the struggle to keep it up, and we’ll create the most magical of vibrations. We’ll be purified and strengthened by that vibration, and we’ll rise to the heights of our excellence. So hopefully, we’ll be joined by all in spirit Live at Five, and in Heaven by Seven.

A short time ago, a million people gathered in Washington, DC, to participate in the Million Man March. Inspired by the idea of coming together to share a common identity, specific sadhanas have been designated as the Sixty Sikh Sadhana. Devotees will be journeying to our Gurdwara at 6 Export Drive in Sterling, Virginia, from as far as three hours away. An all star cast of ragis will create the most beautiful of vibrations.

Some of us will be in bliss, as we soak up the pranas of a strong group sadhana. Some of us will be in agony as we cleanse the consciousness of painful thoughts and memories, and some of us will have to fight like tigers, battling the weight of our subconscious minds, to even make it over to the sadhana room. But we’ll be together, and we’ll celebrate the Victory of the Higher Self.
