"ARCHIVES" is a term used to cover two expansive aspects:. I. Museum - Preservation of historical memorabilia of the Siri Singh Sahib and Sikh Dharma. The Archives Warehouse holds the beginnings of our Museum.
This last year in the Warehouse:
A large unit for the several hundred paintings and prints was installed. All paintings and prints are being protectively bagged and are in the process of being cataloged.
Over 3,000 of the gifts and Yogi Bhajan’s belongings have been organized, cataloged and entered into an inventory database.
II. Library -The Database of the Teachings--audio, video, and hardcopy which will eventually be developed as teachings products. Database status:
Transcribing began at KRI about 1970. Computerization began at KRI around mid-1983 and at KWTC from 1985 on; so there are thousands and thousands of transcripts which were done on a typewriter and need to be scanned or typed into the computer.
Of the over 9,000 lectures: 1275 lectures have been transcribed onto the computer database.
Of those 1275 lectures 1235 still need to be verified and 956 need to have the meditation written up.
Inventory
Tej Kaur, Custodian of the Archives, and Hari Jiwan Singh, L.A., coordinated the ‘Teachings Library Database Inventory’ project which has included:
gathering inventory from around the country.
finding and checking each of Yogi Bhajan’s itineraries since 1968.
logging almost 5,000 video tapes into the inventory database, representing almost all of the videos, and the audios up to but not including 1978.
listing each lecture.
defining its current status (whether it has been transcribed, where it was given, if it has a meditation, if it needs verifying; documenting if it is on audio, video or hard copy, or if we are still searching for it.)
the present inventory consists of:
-2200 video tapes of the master set.
-approximately 950 videos of a duplicate set.
-almost 9000 audio tapes.
Archives House:
The Archives House upgrade was donated by Sikh Dharma KIT businesses and included additional space for storage and work stations. Climate, light, and security control were established: sources of natural light have been blocked; lighting has UV protection; and electric heating and humidity sensors were installed to create the best preservation of all media.
