Sadhana of Giving
Yogi Bhajan talked about giving all the time. He would remind us again and again that giving is not optional but obligatory, that God gives us 100% and we need to give back 10%. But what I remember most about his teachings was how he taught that giving is a sadhana unto itself.
The word "sadhana" means discipline, self-discipline, if you so will, and this was ever high on Yogiji's list of priorities for Dharmic living. You don't get up for sadhana because you want to or because you are asked to, or because you want something, you get up for sadhana to connect with your highest destiny.
In that same vein, you don't give because you want to, or because someone asks you, or because you want to get something back; giving is the ability to Trust, to Let Go, and to Give Up our expectations. We don't give because of anything related to ourselves. We give because of everything related to the Almighty and to our highest destinies. It's not about what we think, or what we want or expect. Taken out of that context, it becomes a discipline to allow ourselves to connect with something higher than our own limited beings and tap into the infinite, unlimited Will of God.
It is the ability to do this which allows us to go beyond our expectations. Yogi Bhajan would chuckle when we wanted things. He'd tell us not to ask God for things, because we were limiting ourselves. If we ask God for $500, we could miss out on an opportunity for $501 to flow to us. If we give $10 and expect to get $100 back, we might be missing out on receiving even more than that back.
It is a part of prosperity technology to tithe and know you will receive ten-fold in return. But it is the sadhana of giving itself which allows us to let go of the expectations, to let go of our own personal reasons and just give, honoring our commitment to our highest destiny and trusting the universe. The most amazing part of it is the abundance of blessings that flow
our way, when we are able to put our own minds
out of the way!
This month we invite you to join the sadhana of giving and send your tithe. Give for the discipline of giving and sit back and enjoy the blessings flowing into your life. Send your check today or give online at: www.dasvandh.org
