Building Community: Khalsa women's Weekends
The other night I was reading the Siri Singh Sahib's notes from his July 27, 1976 Khalsa Women's Training Camp class. He said, "The idea is that all of you who believe in one reality, one thought, who have one goal to achieve and a common spirit to live righteously, should get together and help each other create a new energy. The energy should build up character one by one, micro-consciousness, and macro-consciousness. That is what our future is based on."
It struck me that that is exactly what we have been doing. What began as a thought back in the summer of 2003, that the Texas sangat of women should get together for a weekend with nothing more than the goal of doing sadhana together on the beach and watching the Siri Singh Sahib's KWTC videos, is now becoming a Texas tradition for building and maintaining a strong community of women. We call it "Khalsa Women's Weekend."
After our second weekend in the spring of 2004 the Siri Singh Sahib wrote us with this directive, "Congratulations on a successful Khalsa Women's Weekend. Everyone should do this. Talk to other communities about it and inspire them. Keep the teachings alive. Women who work together and support each other will heal the world."
That letter came just four months before he left his physical body. In the middle of the 17 days after his passing, we gathered once again for the third time. It was a powerful experience of community that was totally transformative, where the Siri Singh Sahib's presence moved through us.
Just recently we gathered in San Marcos, Texas for our fourth Khalsa Women's Weekend. It is a collective process. No one is an outsider - we make sure of that by introducing "newcomers" and "old timers"alike to each other as each of us arrives. Every woman adds her own inner wisdom and light and is valued for that. We maintain the sacredness of the space with the guideline that anything that is shared within the confines of the weekend stays within that space.
Each time we gather the number of women magically expands to fill the space available. We've formed strong bonds and reflections of our own selves that carry us through between the expanses of time when we can't be together.
We'd like to encourage women, wherever you may live, to gather uninterrupted, if only for a couple of days, to strengthen the bonds between us all. Watch some KWTC videos together, make time to talk about them, and see what happens. We are in the process of putting together some "how to begin" information so you can learn from our successes and mistakes. In the meantime feel free to contact me if you wish to know more now.

With much love and many blessings,
humbly,
Guru Gian Kaur
