This Summer Solstice we saw the completion of the marble floor for the Solstice Gurdwara - another step on our journey toward the building of the Temple of Steel at Ram Das Puri. For many years we have known that the Siri Singh Sahib's vision of the ‘Harimandir Sahib of the West,’ a magnificent Golden Temple crowned by a massive 840 foot steel pyramid, will one day become a reality at our Summer Solstice site. In the late 1980's, the Summer Solstice Gurdwara missal began to work toward upgrading the small Gurdwara at Ram Das Puri. Although it is used only a few weeks out of the year, we see it as the seed for the future Gurdwara of Temple of Steel.

The Summer Solstice marble project began with a donation of three tons of beautiful white marble from the Mexican Sangat. This summer, under the expertise of Sat Darshan Singh, Seattle, and with the seva of his wife Sat Kaur, many helpers gathered to fabricate an elaborate design using many types of stone. The colored pieces include a vast array of exotic and unusual marbles and granites from all over the world, donated by Sat Darshan Singh himself. The patterns reflect several motifs from the Golden Temple in India, as well as ancient spiritual symbols of transformation.

The Temple of Steel Group continues to promote the vision of the Temple of Steel, and support the upgrade of the Summer Solstice Gurdwara. Fund raising includes year round sales of hand made cotton knit cheridars (made by Guru Roop Kaur’s 78 year old mother, who has made over 600 pairs in the last three years) and full color Temple of Steel tee shirts.
