Yoga and Yogi Tea in Russia

In September I traveled to Russia and other countries in what used to be the Soviet Union for a two week business trip representing Sikh Dharma’s KIIT businesses, Yogi Tea and Sunshine body care products. The response to our products and to Kundalini Yoga was overwhelming, and we formed a network to get yoga to thousands of people in the former Soviet Union.
Dr. Gurujiwan Singh, a yoga teacher and medical doctor in Russia, introduced us to a large marketing nutrition company in Russia, called Vitamax. We went to meet with them and many of their 81,000 distributors throughout the area. Russia and other parts of the former Soviet Union have a rich herbal and natural healing heritage, and they are all big tea drinkers, so the fit with Yogi Tea is quite natural for them.
For the first part of our visit, we participated in meetings with the top 400 Vitamax distributors on board a cruise ship on the Dnieper River, which goes from Ukraine to the Black Sea. The first day I casually mentioned that I would be doing Kundalini Yoga early each morning, and if anyone wanted to join me, they were welcome. The next morning, at 6:30 am in the pouring rain on the deck of the ship, more than 60 people came for a yoga class, and they all loved it! After that, we arranged for an indoor room, and we had many enthusiastic participants every morning.
At another very large gathering of 3,000 distributors, in addition to talking about our products, we also did some basic yoga exercises. At first some people were a little reluctant, but we encouraged them and soon we had thousands of people doing Kundalini Yoga. Each box of Yogi Tea has a basic Kundalini Yoga exercise, so it is easy to encourage the relationship between Yogi Tea, Kundalini Yoga, and general health and well-being. The promotional material for our products that is being distributed in Russia contains yoga information in Russian so that it is very accessible to everyone. In addition, whenever there is a meeting of these distributors, they always make sure that there some yoga practiced as well.
We are going back again in May to meet with 300 medical doctors. An exciting network of continuing relationships between yoga, Yogi Tea and our other health-promoting products, and thousands of Russians has been started. People are drinking and smoking less and eating in a more healthy way because of this relationship. There are now people in the Kremlin drinking Yogi Tea and practicing yoga. We look forward to building on these relationships and strengthening our bonds of friendship.
