In Traditional Societies, People Are Valuable
In Traditional Societies, People Are Valuable;
In Modern Society Things are Valuable
David Maybury Lewis
'Millennium'

In the years between 1960 and 1990, the proportion of adults living alone tripled, from 4 to 12 percent of the population.

The majority of humans have lived tribally for about 495 of the last 500 generations, which encompasses the roughly 10,000 years of recorded history. Our ancestors lived in roving bands, small villages, and extended families, developing and refining the social graces necessary to keep their communities viable. But many of us in the West wandered away from the community in search of personal vision or the American Dream. The cost of this journey is the loss of community. Some among us still know how to live with one another and the environment- they are the last remaining
tribal people.
