Sat Nam,

Anyone who sees my Dasvandh statements must assume I am not paying a full tenth, and that would be quite accurate because I usually round up the amount to the nearest $5 or $10. I am a housewife married to a man who happens to be a Methodist with some qualms about tithing. I decided in 1989 to ask for a regular allowance, in part so I would have a regular income from which I could make regular Dasvandh contributions in a graceful manner.

Since then, my husband’s job (which he especially enjoys) has been reclassified in what amounted to a nice promotion. (This was in the middle of the recession.) Both of us have received stocks, bonds and cash through bequests or larger-than normal gifts. We have paid off our mortgage, and our net worth now is easily triple what it was in ‘89. Consistent giving pays wonderful dividends.
