IKYTA Teacher News
This year the 9th Annual Teachers Conference, “Building Yoga Communities through Sound and Mantra,” was held in Espanola, NM on June 14th. It was a great day of shared technology, inspiration, and music, music, music.

“Vibrating in the company of fellow teachers and excellent presentations, I felt expanded and full. The Naad united us as we shared our stories, our voices and our spirits. We are definitely including Hari Kirn’s Celestial Communication improvisational exercise in our upcoming Ladies Camp and Teacher Training.”
Dharm Kaur, Teacher Trainer, Vancouver

Our day started with a high-energy ‘live music’ sadhana. Gurucharan Singh then led Breathwalk. Shanti Shanti Kaur and Dev Suroop Kaur’s presentation provided technology for renewal and rejoicing. Gurudass Singh and Kaur (Spain) shared their experience using all your senses to deepen your personal experience with Naad. Sat Jivan Singh (NY), Guru Singh (CA), and Mehtab Singh(TX) shared their personal stories and aspirations in building yoga communities. They touched our hearts and inspired us. Hari Kirn Kaur (LA) led a great interactive class in Celestial Communications, in which Sangeet Kaur and Jatha (NM) filled the air with divine Naad, and we broke into groups to spontaneously create unique Celestial Communication presentations. Each group became a harmonius community right in front of our eyes! Gurucharan Singh (MA) spoke about the power of inclusion to build community, and he wove all the strands of the day together into oneness.

At the first “Teacher Recognition” dinner we honored teachers who were nominated by their communities for Outstanding Yoga Community Building: Gurudev Singh of Rome, Italy; Rai Singh and Rai Kaur of Knoxville, TN; Mehtab Singh and Guru Karam Kaur of Austin, TX; Hari Simran Singh and Sat Rattan Kaur of Phoenix, AZ; Darshan Kaur of Herndon, VA; Krishna Kaur of Los Angeles, CA; and Clara Graham de Winel of Mission, British Columbia. Those teachers recognized by IKYTA for serving behind the scenes were Shakti Parwha Kaur of Los Angeles, CA; Guruka Singh of Espanola, NM; Gurucharan Singh of Boston, MA; and Hari Kaur of Boston, MA. We’d like to thank everyone who sent in nominations.

All teachers who received 2002 IKYTA Recognition for Building Yoga Community, were presented with a Recognition Award

personally signed by Yogi Bhajan. All Conference attendees were presented with Recognition Postcards.

After a divine dinner there was a “Musicfest” with Guru Ganesha Singh, Guru Singh, Gurudass Singh, Sat Kartar Kaur, and Snatam Kaur - wow! We ended with the Ra Ma Da Sa meditation for Yogi Bhajan, and then were blessed to hear the words of our beloved Teacher.

This was a great day for all, and we are already planning for next year, when our theme will be: “Keeping Up Teaching Kundalini Yoga in the 21st Century: The Sensory Human.”

“Our creativity will be our sensory system. And through this sensory system we will be touching the hearts of people, and feeling their feelings, and filling their emptiness. We will act great, and our flow will fulfill the gratefulness in the hearts of others. It will be a new relationship. We will create a new humanity, which will have the new sensory system, and thus we will establish the Age of Aquarius. This is the fundamental character you have to learn by heart.” Yogi Bhajan, 8/1/01

Many thanks to all who participated. We look forward to joining together next year for our 10th Annual Teachers Conference. God bless you.
