Baisakhi 1998 - Los Angeles
Baisakhi 1998 - Los Angeles
Sandy T.

Los Angeles CA, U.S.A.

I had been a yoga student at Yoga West in Los Angeles for over a year, but had never participated in any of the services offered by the Sikhs who teach at Yoga West. In fact, I did not even know they existed. When I heard about Baisakhi Gurdwara (religious service) I called another yoga student and we both decided to go.

When I first entered the Gurdwara, I was overwhelmed by what I saw and heard. The decorations were magnificent! The music coming from the Indian musicians filled the room to create a vibration that was so unique - I had never experienced anything like it before. I was especially intrigued by the person sitting behind the Holy Book, surrounded by people in their orange costumes holding swords.

From there I went to an adjoining room where I saw about 50 children practicing what I found out later to be "Celestial Communication." They looked so angelic and bright, moving their arms around in rhythm to the music.

Later somebody took me downstairs where I served a delicious vegetarian Indian-style dinner. It was great! While I was eating, I could still hear the beautiful music from the Gurdwara echoing through the room.

At one point I heard the voice of Yogi Bhajan and ran back upstairs to hear him talk. His speech was very uplifting. Overall it was a very full and enriching day, one that I will never forget. I decided to attend again in 1998, hope to see you there.
