Building Community Identity Toward A State Of Self-Esteem
Building Community Identity Toward A State Of Esteem
California Department of Education

In California, building self-esteem is a community building project. The California Task Force to Promote Self-Esteem and Personal and Social Responsibility was created to rethink social problem solving.

This required a pro-active strategy that supports the empowerment of individuals and local communities. The Task Force identified four primary ingredients for nurturing self-esteem: a sense of belonging, likability, a feeling of significance and commitment to serving, giving and hard work. The taskforce feels we have a responsibility for developing these ourselves, and it is only when each of us recognizes our individual personal and social responsibility to be part of the solution that we achieve success.

We have it within our power to improve the human condition. We can develop a "social vaccine" by developing our own self-esteem and modeling it in all of our relationships and communities. The California Task Force hopes this is a starting point that will spread to the entire global community.
