Anandpur Sahib Yatra Baisakhi Day 1999
Anandpur Sahib Yatra Baisakhi Day 1999

Brooklyn NY, U.S.A.

The year 1999 will mark the 300th anniversary of the birth of the Khalsa. It will also be the 30th anniversary of our Healthy, Happy, Holy Organization (3HO). Both teach us to live in the excellence of our soul and spirit with grace and purity.

On April 13, 1999, in Anandpur Sahib, India, we will celebrate the 300th anniversary of the birth of the Khalsa, when Guru Gobind Singh, the Tenth Sikh Guru, formed the Khalsa. The 300th Anniversary Anandpur Sahib celebration serves to remind us of the spirit and soul of those blessed ones who were at that historic gathering 300 years ago. They made their commitment to the excellence of their soul at that time when they stepped forward and offered their heads. In 1999 we are celebrating the rebirth of this spirit so that we and our children will continue to carry the banner of Khalsa to all four corners of the world. The spirit of the 300th Anniversary celebration in 1999 will have a global impact by educating and giving an experience to people all over the world about the grace, purity, spirit, and excellence of Khalsa.

Siri Singh Sahib Yogi Bhajan addressed the International Khalsa Council concerning the purpose of the Anandpur Sahib Yatra. Here is that address:

"A call was given 300 years ago, and with no means at our disposal, 85,000 of us gathered there. Out of the blue, Guru Gobind Singh asked for a head of a brave one for the mission. Not one, but five, came forward one after the other. He dressed them, baptized them, taught them strength, glory, and grace. That established the Panth Khalsa. We practiced that, and for the first time in the world the Khalsa baptized Guru Gobind Singh as Guru and honored him as Guru of the Khalsa.

Now 30 years after the formation of Sikh Dharma, we are the Khalsa. Our means are very adequate and different. We don't have to walk through jungles, we don't have to escape the tyranny of Mogul forces, and we don't have food problems. But still, with all our hearts and heads, we have to walk on the same dirt, part of the earth, to answer His call. In our lifetime, this is the only tricentennial call we can answer. We have six months to arrange ourselves, regroup our energies, and show up there in God's name.

Singh Sahib Jot Singh Khalsa is making an historical gem-studded kirpan with the full Jaap Sahib on it. We pray he succeeds. This kirpan shall be our identity leader, and we shall follow as sangat, just as the universe follows Adi Shakti (primal energy).

We are hopeful everyone will participate in organizing and will participate fully. If God has blessed you with more means, help other people to participate. We are not visiting a five star hotel; we are visiting a place where Five Piaaras (beloved ones) were born.

All those who are going should have a walking stick, a sleeping bag, their personal medicine kit, and a set of warm rain clothes. We are sure we shall be tested. It's a test of steel; it has never failed to bring ecstasy and grace of sacrifice out of the human.

Come and see it for yourself. You were called three hundred years ago. Voice is still ringing; it is for you to answer and be there."

In the words of Kulbir Singh, "If you are looking for nice accommodations you might as well go to Hawaii. If you are seeking spiritual upliftment and seeking to open your heart, then go to Anandpur Sahib for Baisakhi 1999."
