We Are The Future
We Are The Future
Siri Singh Sahib Yogi Bhajan
Summer Solstice 6/25/95

If you look back at the last five thousand years, there were religions then that don't exist today. Some of them, like the Zoroastrians, were the world's most powerful religions. They worshipped beauty and piety through fire. There was nothing wrong with them, but they were just over run.

Buddhism started in India and almost all of India was Buddhist. But then it was run over by the Shankaracharias. You talk of sacrifices? Buddhists were tied down into the boats. They were very non-violent. The boats were lit on fire and they were put in the Bay of Bengal; hundreds and thousands died that way. Afghanistan area was at one time the headquarters of Buddhism. It was total and complete.

The Christians are no exception. Their Crusades are very well known. There is a written record. This is the history of five thousands years before you. You can accept, deny, debate, argue or reason with it. There was no forgiveness or tolerance and there still isn’t even today.

That is why the father of the Khalsa, Guru Gobind Singh said, "You have to be a saint and soldier at the same time." Nobody is going to defend you. You have to defend yourself. But you have to be wise enough and spiritual enough not to offend anybody.

The tradition has lived. But now, after five hundred and twenty five years of Guru Nanak, a Sikh Dharma is born in the western hemisphere. It is not a Dharma by the teachings of a person or a body of persons. It is a religion by the Miracle of Guru Ram Das, as the Lord promised so it happened. Many will not understand, they were not born to understand. Their eyes can only read the billboards and they can't see it. Their skin can feel it. Their brain does not have the capacity to understand it .

We shall not waste one moment with these hooligans, who are fanatically entrenched in their traditions. Their shallowness and shadowness can not give us any guidance, direct or indirect. As far as our gratitude is concerned, they brought us the Siri Guru Granth. We are grateful. Nine hundred sixty million we shall be. That is not our problem, it is what we shall be. They may not be part of us or they may be. We are not part of them. We cannot accept their philosophy, interpretations, and theology.

We have our father, Guru Gobind Singh; mother, Mata Sahib Deva Kaur; and our Khalsa traditions. We'll abide by that. The Siri Guru Granth shall guide us. We are the future. We know it. We will be everywhere. Therefore, if anybody has a misunderstanding of what shall happen tomorrow, let them drown in their own doubt and sorrow. Let them be blind and walk in their own route. We are not responsible. Look at the grace of the true Guru. Neither they came for our help, or to get help for themselves and now they shall help. What they have done is technically pulled our legs, and now our legs have become so long that we walk very fast and tall.

Opposition has served us. Challenge has honored us. We have been forced to research our consciousness. That's all spirituality is. If the environments challenge you to search your spirit, that is your starting point on a spiritual path.
You must understand when we say, "We are an Atma (soul) born for a human experience; we are not a human born for spiritual experience." It is totally opposite to every religious faith. Every religion tells you you are born in sin, therefore you should live in guilt. Every religion dispensed a promise between the state and its congregation to find and locate power. We are born free. We are born under the guidance of the godli-ship of the Sat Guru, Siri Guru Granth. We shall never worship a man as an ideal, idol, deity, person, or as a personality.

Angels are our friends. Demons we play hockey and football with. Afraid? We are not. From the Almighty home we have come to exist as shining sons and daughters of the Guru, and to our home we shall go back. We have come to answer a call of duty, beauty, bounty and blessing. In answering the Guru's call, wherever you are, you are protected, respected and honored.

Our temple shall have priceless decorations. Our caliber and ecstasy shall glow. Our sons and daughters shall be the leaders. We are born to rule. With justice, honor, peace, tranquility and grace, we'll uplift the human race. We'll never consider that this person is black, brown, yellow or pink. Nobody will ride in the back of the buses. We'll offer our front seats to them. Our places will not be places of punishment and judgment. They will be places of prayer and forgiveness. We'll set the human race in the tradition of humanity. Our rules will be the rules which the world shall admire. They shall come to our Guru, bewitched by our beauty, bounty and bliss. Aren't we lucky? We wear white, the color of servant colors. We have no gender. Our Khalsa women and Khalsa men are Khalsa. We have our bana, bani, seva and simran.

I will tell you why Guru wanted you to be Sikhs, to be pioneers, to go and penetrate. Remember these words: "You shall go and cross and touch those boundaries which nobody has crossed before."

Life is ours. Future is ours. We are ours. That is how Khalsa Ji, this brotherhood stands today, this sisterhood stands today, this Khalsahood stands today. The mind has to be mastered, so that the spirit can glow and Khalsa can grow.

To make the mind under your mastery is very simple. Any thought which comes to you, just ask it, "Will it honor the Guru?" If answer is, "Yes," go ahead. "Will it honor the Guru?" Answer is, "No," then, don't do it. Remember Akal Takhat is not a brick place. It is the spirit of Guru Hargobind. It is yours. Harimandir is not a brick place, it is yours.

Don't forget your responsibilities. They are humungous and as wide as this planet earth. You are stretched beyond your limits already but we'll face it. It will be your extended self which will be tested. Your hands will be as long as this globe is. You as a nation shall hug this globe. You'll be everywhere where humanity is. The cause and effect of your destiny is already prewritten. You are born free spirits in the land of the free and the home of the brave. With a tradition to reach out, you will spin around the globe.

That's why you are sending your children today to circle around the earth. Because that's your karma. This is your Dharma to go around the planet earth wherever the humanity has needs. You shall be there. That's why Guru Nanak gave us the word and he walked and walked. Within his time and his means he was the most splendid traveler. You shall walk, talk and you shall be. That's why God wanted you. That's the destiny, the distance you have to cover. And they say, "Guru Nanak gave us the word."
