Has your back been hurting lately? How about those sore knees or funny bumps on your arm? Seven months from now, you can go to Dr. Siri Sat Kaur Khalsa for these ailments and more. Who cares if she'll still be in her residency? We'll just be proud she's a medical doctor. After a grueling eight years, she's done it!

Ever since she was about 12 years old, Siri Sat Kaur has wanted to be a doctor. She's not sure how she decided, but remembering the times in India when she didn’t like the way she was treated, she says, "It would just reaffirm my desire to do something big with my life."

Siri Sat Kaur is in her fourth year of medical school at University of Southern California School of Medicine, and loves the excitement of it all! In this final year, Siri Sat has rotated through different specialties every month. So far she has been through pediatrics, surgery, internal medicine, psychiatry, and obstetrics/ gynecology, among others. She is responsible for her own patients, and has delivered five babies! She also assists in different types of surgery, including open-heart surgery.

Siri Sat Kaur plans to go into family practice medicine, which combines a little bit of everything. Once she graduates in May, 1999, she will officially be an M.D. She will then go into residency, the first year of which is an internship. Residency in family practice lasts three years.

Born in a 3HO ashram, Siri Sat Kaur did very well at school in India, where she attended both Guru Nanak Fifth Centenary School in Mussoorie and Guru Ram Das Academy in Dehra Dun. She graduated with honors from college, with a degree in biology, and was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa. We're proud of you, Siri Sat Kaur!
