Making a Living by What We Give
- From the Dasvandh Office
Greetings and blessings for a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year to all of our readers. Many, many thanks for your wonderful feedback about the year-end video and for your generous year-end Dasvandh contributions.

Recently, I ran across a most beautiful quote: “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” (Norman MacFinn). And it is so true. To whom or what we give our time, our energy, our efforts, our money, our thoughts, our consideration is what defines and makes our lives. It is the virtue of selfless giving which completes us. If we receive anything in return it is an extra-added bonus.

As we trudge along in our daily lives, making a living, taking care of our responsibilities, it is often easy to forget how simply we can enrich our lives by giving, and sometimes life can feel so demanding it’s hard to imagine having the time, energy or money to give at all. But this fallacy is proven wrong every time we give from the heart, despite what the mind is saying to us. “God gives to those who give.” (Yogi Bhajan) It’s as simple as that.

This year I invite you to test this theory over and over again in your life. Give to your loved ones, give to your communities and give to the organizations which support your ideals and mind-set. Start now by writing your check to Dasvandh, or by increasing your existing donations. Consider signing up for EFT or reaping the benefits of donating by credit card (if your credit card company participates in miles programs). Wherever you give, remember that your life is made by it.
