The Legacy of Human Life
The strong creative forces contained within the human spirit are there to inspire us to produce something that will go beyond our years, far further than our personal sphere, and far grander than our (sometimes mundane) lives and limited dreams. In example after example, genius has been found, greatness born, and unfathomable heights reached despite circumstance destined to destroy everything in its path.

It might be considered that it is a person's ability to dream that allows them such successes, but I believe it is set more in practical terms by their ability not to dream, and more to align themselves with the Divine Will of God, to always act in alignment with that will.

The Siri Singh Sahib (Yogi Bhajan) is my favorite example of this. He aligned himself and set about it. This is the first step of creating a legacy - aligning one's self with the Divine Will of God. Looking further at Yogi Bhajan's life, the second trait I hold to be imperative is the ability to stay focused no matter what. But the third, and most important, is never to assume it is YOU, and always to know it is God working through you. The Siri Singh Sahib (Yogi Bhajan) has often used the analogy of the postman, saying that he just carried the message; he is not the message itself, but one who delivers it.

With this simple formula of alignment, focus and remembering it is all God, people leave their marks upon the world and their legacies for generations to come. And each legacy looks different. While one might include fame, another might be less vocal, and there can be no judgment in the realm of defining what a person's legacy may look like. It can mean different things to different people. Some people offer achievements in art, some people make their makr in science, others work in their communities, others in service organizations.

We have tremendous role models of selfless service from the Sikh Gurus and from the Siri Singh Sahib (Yogi Bhajan). Financial support of the things we value, pray for, and aspire to hand down to future generations is another excellent way to leave our own mark upon the world. By supporting what we believe in, we enable the valuable teachings which inspired us, to continue inspiring generation upon generation. Please get out your checkbook today and write a generous check to Sikh Dharma and help support the legacy of our work in spreading and sharing the teachings of the Siri Singh Sahib (Yogi Bhajan).
